Representations of characters challenging/ reinforcing stereotypes
Lauren:
In this particular scene in Eastenders, the character of Lauren challenges and reinforces stereotypes. For example, she challenges the stereotype of typical women (formal and gentle) as by the end of the clip she assaults the character of Lucy by punching her. This may surprise some viewers as it does not fit the usual stereotype of women as they would usually expect her to be prim and proper. In the media teenagers are known to be trouble causers and normally liable to drinking a large amount of alcohol, therefore Lauren reinforces the stereotype of young people drinking and being aggressive.
Lucy:
In this scene, Lucy is presented rather different to Lauren's character as Lucy is presented as a posh young woman due to how she is dressed. However, when she starts speaking she challenges the stereotype of a typical smart well dressed woman as she begins goading Lauren. This will bring shock to the audience as they would expect her to have a posh, well presented accent.
