Construction of news

Construction of representations in news

Use of language
The article is "constructed" through the use of language. For example, they have referred to the victims as "trapped in their dormitory" to present the story more dramatically. The use of this language leads the audience to believe the students struggled to escape as they were trapped whilst knowing they were going to die. This has been done to create an image in the audiences head. Also, the article has continued to add more detail to the event as they have dded the ages of the people who had died. They have been described as "all boys between the age of 13-17" which has been done to make the audience feel for the people who had died as they were just children and still young. By doing this, it creates a graphic image in your head as they had nobody to help them at the time. Plus, the article goes on to explain "at least 23 students and teachers have died", which suggests they do not have a realistic figure of how many people died that day which leads the audience to believe more people had died.

Position it is in the news
This article is the most viewed and popular story in the world on the news right now. It is the most popular as it has been added to the top of the BBC News website to attract people to make them think that is the most important story.
